AQUAMARINES
At Provenance Gems we have a deep and personal relationship with the Aquamarine.
The world's most famous Aquamarines were discovered in Brazil. Different mines were discovered during Brazil's colonial era and the early twentieth century. Many of these mines are long depleted, the most famous being the Santa Maria Mine in Itabira, Minas Gerais which gave us the legendary Santa Maria Aquamarine.
Much more recently exciting discoveries have been made in Mozambique. Aquamarines of a quality thought to be unavailable for decades have been mined, sometimes referred to as Santa Maria Africana.
We found the Aquamarine to be the perfect gemstone to show off the Snowflake Cut. With such a special cut collectors demand a valuable gem. Natural Aquamarines are elegant and sophisticated. We have focused on a specific shade of blue, dark enough to to exude value and substance, light enough to evoke the snow.
THE SNOWFLAKE CUT
All of our Aquamarines are cut by Ralph & Rudi Wobito, the Wobito Brothers, in their studio in Stouffville, Ontario in Canada.
The Wobito Brothers are master gem cutters and their family has been in the trade for countless generations, first in Germany in Idar Oberstein and later in Canada.
Ralph Wobito invented the Snowflake Cut in 1996 and the Wobito Brothers patented the cut in 2005.
PROVENANCE GEMS EXCLUSIVE DESIGNS
Such a special unique cut requires jewelry to match. Provenance Gems’ design team and goldsmiths have a unique understanding of the Snowflake Cut.
Our jewelry shows off the Snowflake in settings that subtly protect while never detracting. To achieve this great care must be taken at every stage, the prongs need to be a certain way, the basket needs a certain shape, etc….. Our experience with the Snowflake Cut allows us to make jewelry that is in perfect unison with the finesse and artistry of the gemstone itself.
